Winter Big Bend National Park Wedding | Texas Elopement Photographer

WOW. That’s the best word I can think of to describe what this day was like. If you’re thinking about eloping, and especially if you’re thinking about eloping somewhere in Texas, you DEFINITELY need to look into Big Bend National Park for your elopement or small/intimate wedding. Because, wow.

I have been actively day dreaming of going to Big Bend for the last 6 months or so. It’s been on the list of places to take our Airstream to ever since we got her (coming up on two years ago). But the opportunity came for me to go on my own for a long weekend and I jumped through hoops to make sure it happened!

Originally I was thinking to go and get some of my bigger business items checked off my to-do list. Setting up facebook ads, creating more blog content, changing some things on my website, going over my workflows, y’know, the really fun stuff *not.* But then I started thinking about exploring and taking pictures in Big Bend and I thought…. if I’m going to be taking pictures for my site, I might as well see if I can find a couple to model for me…

Lissette + Mark’s Big Bend Elopement

That’s when I reached out to these two. I stumbled upon their instagram account mid-day dream, looking at Big Bend geotag or hashtags, I can’t remember. Decided to followed them and thought what a cute couple they were. I also enjoyed being able to see all the cool south-west Texas spots they’d go to, that I’ve been wanting to go to for years now (Marfa & Terlingua). So when I thought of beginning to search for a couple, they were the first people I thought of. So I reached out semi-last minute hoping they’d be free and down for a styled elopement shoot!

We planned to meet at the Chisos Basin. Then hike up Lost Mines Trail in time to catch the sunset and hike back down in the dark. The hike was the perfect level of difficulty, the weather was absolutely amazing, and the two of them melted into each other out in nature & brought some of the best chemistry a photographer-friend could hope for. My heart just fills with love and joy after these hiking elopements, I can’t say it enough what an honor it is to witness such delicate moments so intimately. I’m grateful for their trust in me and each other throughout this whole process.

Post-elopement fun

We started to make our way down and shared more about our life plans, what movies we constantly quoted, and Lissette said hiking down in the dark wasn’t as bad as she’d feared, yay! I think there’s something special about hiking in the dark just as the sun has set or is about to come up. Something about that time of day that’s mystical. They invited me to dinner & to roast marshmallows. If you haven’t seen the stars out there, you’re really missing out. I can’t wait to go back in the summer and catch the milky way! They even wanted to wake up early to come hike Santa Elena Canyon with me the next day :’)

Lissette & Mark are honestly some of the coolest people I’ve met in a long time. You never know when meeting new people how it’s going to go, but we hit it off and I’m so glad. My trip was truly enhanced having them there. They are so down to earth, they’re kind & caring, they love dogs, adventure, and each other, they are also trying to find ways to make their life work in an alternative way, much like yours truly 😉 I’m so glad to be able to call them my friends.

hope you enjoy reliving your day!

OH!!! And, Mark is an amazing artist that makes these really neat abstract paintings and draws super cute little scenes, you should check him out! But he drew something super, super, special to me and I 100% teared up. Sometimes it feels like truly thoughtful people are super rare, everyone gets caught up in their own lives, but his drawing just touched my heart and I felt appreciated. I can’t wait to hang it up in our airstream!
